Award Nominations

On May 16, 1929, 270 guests attended a private luncheon at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel when the first Academy Awards were presented. The Mayfair Hotel hosted the post-award party. The cost of a guest ticket is $5 ($73 in 2020) for the evening's event. For their efforts between 1927 and 1928, fifteen prizes honoring artists, directors, and members of the cinema business were given out. This party lasts for fifteen minutes.

Three months in advance, the media was informed of the winners. At the second award ceremony in 1930, this was modified. The results were then given to newspapers for publishing at 11:00 p.m. on award night throughout the remainder of the first decade. The Los Angeles Times announced the winners prior to the ceremony in 1940, ending this system. As a result, the Academy has employed sealed envelopes to announce the winners since 1941.

In 1953, the first television broadcast of the awards show took place; today, more than 200 nations watch it live. The Oscars are the longest-running awards event; other ceremonies include the Tony Award for theater, the Grammy Award for music business awards, the Emmy Award for television show awards, and the Oscars. To recognize accomplishments and work in the film business during the previous year, this award was traditionally awarded three months following the new year. For instance, despite the Oscars taking place in 2014, 12 Years a Slave won Best Picture in 2013.

Lainey Wilson. Here is an awards trajectory that is uncommon, at least in the world of country music: Lainey Wilson has never even had a CMA Award nomination, yet as of Wednesday morning, she is the front-runner for the 2022 ceremony. When the Country Music Association revealed the nominees for its 56th annual awards presentation on Wednesday morning, Wilson took first place with six nominations. A quartet of contestants, including Chris Stapleton, Carly Pearce, Ashley McBryde, and songwriter/producer Shane McAnally, were just behind them, with five nominations each.

Wilson has been hailed as a popular new face and the all-too-rare example of a newish female singer who has been able to top the chart, so the news of her six nominations will likely bring joy to much of the country community. In addition to album of the year, Wilson is up for female vocalist, musical event (co-written with Cole Swindell for the duet "Never Say Never"), music video (also co-written with Swindell), and, last but not least, new artist of the year. Wilson is nominated in these categories as well as for her hit song "Things a Man Oughta Know," which she co-wrote.

Although there were a lot of new faces among the top candidates, there wasn't a significant turnover among the contenders for the top award, entertainer of the year. Lambert, Underwood, Stapleton, and last year's victor, Combs, are the other four of the five artists vying for that, all of whom are carryovers from 2021. Morgan Wallen, a vocalist who had never before received an entertainer nomination, was however introduced to the category.

Wallen gets just two nominations overall out of all the entertainer of the year nominees; in addition to entertainer, he is also up for best male vocalist. However, receiving four nominations marks a significant improvement in his CMA performance. He was not permitted to attend the CMA Prizes last year, and the CMA Board only permitted him to compete in categories where he would have split the prize with others. As a result, he was not eligible for either of the two awards he was nominated for in 2022. Wallen has been welcomed back at award presentations this year after the controversy surrounding his use of the N-word on tape prompted the actions.
