Livestreams - How to Set Up Livestream on YouTube Using OBS Studio

Are you interested in becoming a streamer and making money from the internet. Becoming a streamer or caster is now even easier. Software commonly used for broadcasting can be obtained free of charge. If you want to be a streamer, you have to know how to set up a livestream.

In this tutorial we will use OBS Studio software to livestream on YouTube. Follow the steps below carefully to livestream properly.

1. Set up YouTube 

  • Make sure your YouTube account is verified. If not, go to the https://www.youtube.com/verify  and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • If you have verified, open YouTube and select the camera icon at the top right of the screen, then select Go Live.
  • Select Schedule Stream and fill in all the information requested by YouTube such as stream title and description, stream date and time, etc.
  • If it's okay, select Create Stream.
  • Your stream analytics page will appear. Look for the Stream Key section, then select Copy.

2. Set up OBS Studio

  • Make sure you have downloaded and installed OBS Studio via the Download OBS Studio.
  • Open OBS Studio and select Settings in the menu in the lower right corner of the screen.
  • In the Output menu, enter the number 10000 Kbps in the bitrate field. For Encoder, select Hardware if you are using GPU.
  • In the Video menu, select the stream resolution you want. Some of the options that you can use are 1280×720 or 1920×1080.
  • In the Stream menu, select YouTube in the Service section. Then, select Stream Key and paste the stream key you copied earlier into the field.
  • If you are satisfied, select Apply, then select OK.
3. Setting up a Livestream

  • Find the main menu, under Sources, select the plus icon and then select Display Capture. Fill in the name, then select OK.
  • Here you can add more stream material sources. Use the plus icon in the Sources section to add other elements like webcams, images, and more.
  • If you are satisfied, select Start Streaming in the lower right corner of the screen.
  • Open your game and start playing.
  • When finished, select Stop Streaming in the OBS menu.
